Bridges of Madison County, The
Bridges of Madison County, The (1995)

IMDB rating: 7.00

Plot: The path of Francesca Johnson’s future seems destined when an unexpected fork in the road causes her to question everything she had come to expect from life. While her husband and children are away at the Iowa state fair in the Summer of 1965, Robert Kincaid happens upon the Johnson farm and asks Francesca for directions to Rosamunde Bridge. He explains that he is on assignment from National Geographic magazine to photograph the bridges of Madison County. She agrees to show him to the bridges and thus begins the bittersweet and all-too-brief romance of her life. Through the pain of separation from her secret love and the stark isolation she feels as the details of her life consume her, she writes down the story of this four-day love affair in a 3-volume diary. The diary is found by her children among her possessions and alongside Robert Kincaid’s possessions after Francesca is dead. The message they take from the diaries is one of hope that they will do what is necessary to find happiness in their lives — whatever is necessary. After learning that Robert Kincaid’s cremated remains were scattered off Rosamunde Bridge and that their mother requested a similar disposition for her own ashes, the children must decide whether to honor their mother’s final wishes or bury her alongside their father as the family had planned. Adapted from the novel by Robert Waller, this is the story of love that happens just once in a lifetime — if you’re lucky.

Have a book ever made you cry before?
I almost never cry over a book or a movie but this book made me cry buckets:
The Bridges of Madison County
What about you?

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, when Dumbledore died :(

I’ve never cried when reading a book.
wookiee lover | Feb 01, 2010

I’ve cried several times while reading books. I find it a little to easy to put myself in the position of a character that has experienced some trauma. I get lost in the books I read. One of the books was actually Bridge to Terebithia. Another was Calling the Swan.

I usually avoid books/movies that make me cry.

I remember crying over:
Where The Red Fern Grows
A Certain Slant of Light
Romeo and Juliet
Jane Eyre
Hunger Games

What would be the best way to find people searching for places to hunt quail?
I am trying to find dove and quail hunting clubs or individuals looking for good places to hunt. I have some land with very good populations of dove, quail, turkey, and wild hogs. I want to set up weekly hunts

Place an add in your local newspaper. You can also take out adds in the back of a lot of hunting magazines. You just have to get your name out there, and make sure that your game populations stay well established, or this will be a short lived venture for you. Where are you out of, maybe I would be interested in a quail hunt!

Where are you located? This sounds interesting.

You could also try posting flyers at your local sporting goods stores.
RDG78 | Jan 25, 2010

The best possible way is to advertise it in the local newspaper. It cost very little to run an ad in the hunting and fishing classified section of your daily paper. Also you could go to all your local sporting goods stores and post it on their bulletin boards. What you have is in great demand and you should have no trouble finder takers. Good luck!

Post an ad on Craigslist.

Well, I wouldn’t mind hunting there. Love to shoot some video. What do you want to get out of it?

arent you embarassed?
ok, so this is a question to all you americans out there…
arent you embarassed that the rest of the world views you as uneducated and stupid?
for example, "Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone" was changed to "Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone", because it was discovered most americans wouldnt read it because they dont know what a philosopher was.
the movie "Henry VIII" was renamed "Henry" because most americans polled said they wouldnt watch it because they’d missed the first 7 movies.

well… im half british and american, but i think that’s BS. did they really did that?! that’s horrible!
Anastasia | Feb 10, 2010

I don’t find it embarrassing. Personally I prefer the terms ‘Philosopher’s’ and ‘Henry VIII’ because they sound more formal, but that’s just me.

I do, however, find it annoying that other countries assume all Americans are fat, lazy, and stupid simply because people who fit those profiles exist here. There are plenty of great people here, but foreigners look past them and assume everyone here is useless.

I’m not saying America is perfect, but foreigners seem to make assumptions that all Americans fit a certain agenda based on stereotypes.

The Bird with the Crystal Plumage

The Bird with the Crystal Plumage
The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970)

IMDB rating: 7.10

Plot: In Italy, the American writer Sam Dalmas (Tony Musant) witnesses an attempt of murder of the owner of an art gallery, a couple of days before his foreseen return to the United States of America. He decides to stay with his girlfriend Julia (Suzy Kendall) and help the police in the investigation, while the serial killer stalks Julia and him.

Directors: Argento Dario

Actors: Musante Tony,Salerno Enrico Maria,Raho Umberto,Romano Renato,Castellano Giuseppe,Adorf Mario,Patti Pino,Di Marco Gildo,Bonaro Omar,Mingozzi Fulvio,Peters Werner,Horror,Mystery,Thriller,

Where can I find DVD's or VHS's of quasi -classic French and Italian films of the 60's and 70's?
There were dozens of endeariing moves during the 60’s and 70’s such as "Dear Detective," "Come Have Some Coffee with Us" and "What Now My Love" that are nowhere to be found. There are also some strange works like "Investigation of a Citizien Above Suspicion" and "Bird with the Crystal Plumage" that have disappeared in the U.S. (as far as I can determine).
Many of the films in this category are from noted directors, feature top performers and extraordinary soundtracks. There are even several Academy Award contenders, yet they are unknown and unavailable here.
Can anyone suggest a source or vendor?

In the UK there is Moviemail, which stocks vast numbers of this type of film.

www.moviemail-online.co.uk

Be warned though, they are often region 2 (or sometimes region 0). NTSC region 1 are not available except in very rare cases. Why? Apparently because your tastes are so rare in the USA it isn’t worthwhile distributing them. So get a multi-region DVD player.

I also noted that you gave all the titles in English. Most of these will be French or Italian titled, with English sub-titles (only rarely an alternate English sound track). Why? See above.

But if like us you really do love these movies, then all this won’t matter.

Enjoy.

Although this is a hard one, I actually think they picked right on this one. That rape scene with Jodie Foster..I liked that her character wasn’t necessarily super-likeable. She had issues for sure, but you wanted her to get justice.
